Caps do not work

Purchased 5 of these at Bass Pro Shops and the recommended caps (bought again from Parris website to be sure right ones), and they do not work, caps too thick. Do not sit well enough in to gun to be hit with force by hammer. Trimmed a few caps by hand, but then will not sit in gun. Would think there should be a proper cap, but #917 not work, or guns defective design. One of the five had hammer mechanism that would catch. Very disappointing Christmas present, esp. because look great.
